Chiaroscuro- the treatment of light and shade, an effect of contrasted light and shadow.
Often used in film Noir where characters are lit with extreme contrast to visually engage without the use of colour. This is constantly beig adapted and used with colour to create suspense or foreshadow a character hiding something. It also is often used in horror films to not reveal the identity of the antagonist or for the audience to identify with the character in hiding. This is usually used within close up facial shots, however, as seen in the first image, this can be used for full body sihouettes- something I plan to use.
