Q1. What is your gender?
I had a fairly evenly distributed survey response in terms of gender, with 46.67% female, 35% male and 18.33% labelling themselves as "other". This in theory gives me a wide spread view of the opinions of my audience, taking into account the views of both genders.
Q2. What age are you?
Amongst some inappropriate anomalies, responders ranged from 11 to 62, with the majority in the teenage demographic. This is useful for my primary target audience of 15-20 years old. It was also useful to be able to incorporate the opinions of my secondary target audience.

Whilst the results were predominantly shifted towards the "other" category, this was less useful than the other objective percentages that I obtained. However, the rest of the results found that 20% preferred romance and16.67% that liked comedy, compared to the 11.6% prefer rom-coms as a mixture of both. The next favourite was the Adventure category at just 8.33%, giving a clear bias for the Romance and Comedy genres. In response to this I am going to make a romance trailer, challenging my film-making and planning whilst adhering to the wants of my primary target audience.

Q4. Did the last trailer you watched make you want to watch the movie?
Having 76% of the respondents enjoying the last trailer that they watched, implies that the trailers are successful in attracting it's audience and are fulfilling their purpose.
Q5. Why did it make you / not make you want to watch it?
This question allowed the respondents to critically analyse why they enjoyed or didn't enjoy a particular trailer. This gave me feedback on the likes and dislikes of my target audience in terms of the content and purpose of the trailers that appeal to them. There were multiple responses enjoying the humour in the trailers and also developing an interest in the trailer. Some of the negative responses claimed that too much of the plot was shown, leaving no reason to watch the film. In response to this feedback I will aim to not include too much of the story line so that the audience are left to speculation.
Q6. How often do you watch a movie trailer before seeing the film?
Whilst a total of 16% claimed that they rarely or never watched film trailers before seeing the movie, 20% claimed to always watch it. Along with 40% usually watching them and the final 23% sometimes. This shows that for the majority of my target audience, a trailer is appreciated and well viewed in order to promote the film. If I was part of a real film production company, this small scale survey indicates that my trailer would be vital in promoting my film.
Q7. If you enjoy a movie trailer, are you more likely to go and see the films?
I put this question out in my survey in order to get an idea of the effectiveness of trailers within my chosen target audience. I found that over 80% if people are more likely to go and see a film, whether this be streamed, in theatres or on DVD, if they enjoy the trailer. This implies that trailers are effective for about 80% of my target audience and show that marketing films through the used of pre-release and post-release trailers are key to the campaign.
Q8. What is your favourite trailer that you can remember?
I found that a lot of the favourite trailers of my target audience were a mixture of the action, romance/ teen romance and horror genre. Whilst the action and horror are most likely to be due to striking effects and sound that grip the audience, I was pleasantly surprised that a lot of my target audience enjoyed some of the romance trailers out there.
Q9. In which places are you more likely to view movie trailers?
This was a distribution question which aimed to help me in terms of making a trailer suitable for various different contexts which are relatable to the answers given in the audiences answers. 59% of my respondents claim to have most access to trailer on YouTube, reflecting the success of the conglomerate and the ease of access, particularly for this age group. 42% of the answers claimed that trailer were mostly watched in the cinema, implying that the lengthy pre-film advertisements remain effective in the promotion of other films and through the use of related trailers. 43% of my audience claimed that IMDB was their joint third medium of viewing, making it the third most popular choice for my audience as a whole. This may be due to IMDB being known for it's reliability and accuracy in the information that it gives. The other category was also third in overall ranking.
Q10. Why do you watch trailers?
I asked this question in order to help myself choose a clear purpose for my trailer, beyond just promoting the film. I found that there was a clear 61% of my audience who claimed to watch trailers "to see if the film was interesting to them". This compared to just 6% who wanted to understand the movie, repeating the early responses in terms of the dislike of trailers giving too much away. 16% were also the only small minority that watched trailers "to guess what the movie was about". It was quite surprising to me that only 15% of people wanted to watch trailers in order "to get (their) friends interested in them", as I have experienced my own friends trying to use trailers to get me interested. In response to this ranking, my trailer will have the purpose of interesting my target audience without giving too much away.
