Why did I choose to change my storyboard?
Although I had not realised it at first, I noticed that my plot was becoming very similar to one of my inspirational pieces; All the bright places. I decided to then strip my entire plot back to the core issues and the main features of the characters and plotline that I wanted to happen. These included the theme of suicide, the shots of a car crash, the idea of travelling and then the finding of the main boy dead at the end (as this was the main thing I enjoyed in the book, due to the shock as it challenges plot conventions by disobeying narrative theories). Todorov's theory of plot structure, taps into the audience's need for happily ever after. When this is broken e.g. in The Fault in Our Stars, their vision of reality is distorted as it becomes more real and less aspirational. This is the effect that I am aiming to create with the ending of my film.
