Having faced the unfortunate circumstances of the other couple I was hoping to audition, it left my with just one realistic option for a couple to cast. I was quite apprehensive about how they would be able to portray the role at their age (a few years younger than I had planned). Having undertaken this casting video, however, I am confident that they will be able to express the emotion and connection needed, once the role has been further understood and the characters developed.
I took two takes of their delivery of the short script as I wanted to see if they would develop from the first to the second. Whilst they were literally reading the script straight off of a screen, I feel that in the second take they were beginning to grasp some more expression behind the lines they were delivering. It is notable that this was without any real input from me, therefore, I believe that if we worked together to put across my ideas into how they are delivering the lines, the characters would really be able to come across through them. By choosing a script that was quite cringy, I was purposely testing their level of maturity in being able to handle the seriousness of the acting in some places. Whilst the first time they burst out laughing as this was the first time they had read the line "I am in love with you", in the second take they were able to deliver it maturely. This has actually surprised me in how serious they are taking my ideas. I am sure that Sarah and John will be able to show a strong connection on screen as they were dropping hints of this in the casting when they were looking towards each other. Also, being my family, I have seen the two whilst off the camera and was actually inspired to include some of the "whacky" things they seem to do for fun in my trailer, such as their water fights and piggy backing. This was before I even planned on casting them. Finally, in terms of mise-en-scene and casting conventions within this genre, I believe that these two actors will fit perfectly with actors that have been in other films in the genre. Whilst Sarah is not blonde, a typical convention, she still has long dark hair, bright blue eyes and freckles. These all connote to beauty and by having dark and challenging this minor convention, the film may even seem more realistic and relatable to a lot of the target audience. A lot of the mise-en-scene aspects of casting males are also reinforced in John, these include him being fairly tall with dark hair. He is also quite muscly and has dark brown eyes, all making him a popular choice for a conventional actor for my film.

GUS God?
HAZEL Maybe. GUS Angels? HAZEL Undecided. GUS Afterlife? HAZEL No. Well... (BEAT) Maybe I wouldn't go so far as to say no. I just... I'd like some evidence. (GUS NODS) What do you think? GUS Absolutely. HAZEL Really? GUS Oh for sure. I mean, not like a heaven where you ride unicorns, play harps, and live in a mansion made of clouds but, yeah, I believe in something. GUS Something becomes of us. It has to. Otherwise what's the point? HAZEL Maybe there is no point. GUS I refuse to accept that. (BEAT) I won't accept it. HAZEL I hope you're right. GUS I'm in love with you. I chose to use this script as it is from "the Fault in Our Stars", one of my intertextuallity/ inspirational texts. A lot of my own characterisation was actually based on Gus and Hazel, and therefore this would be the ideal audition script that could be used for the analysis of my prospective cast. I chose to use this particular transcript of the movie as I felt that it captured a lot of the themes that are involved in my story, such as their short discussion about the afterlife and about the subjective opinions of mythical beings, By tackling this in the audition, I will be able to test the maturity of the actors in seeing if they could handle this topic, The last line "I'm in love with you" will be critical in the assessment of the romantic connection between the actors and their portrayal of this on screen. Following the discussion of a date for the audition, unfortunately one of the couples who I was considering has broken up. Due to the circumstances I believe that it would now be inappropriate to consider them for my trailer and have therefore had to consider other options. I have since confirmed the date for the audition of the other original couple for tomorrow and have already began considering a few other couples that already exist or that I could pair together for the trailer. I am currently considering Owen from my Media class who also does Drama and theatre studies and his girlfriend. I believe that they would be particularly good as Owen in particular would clearly understand the Media task and would be able to portray the character due to his Drama. I also might have the option of pairing together Josh and Katie, both in my Media class and who do drama, giving them understanding and experience. However, I am yet to brief them on certain things that may be uncomfortable to perform as friends (such as kissing) and am not sure if they would be able to bring the level of chemistry that will be needed.
I have contacted my two potential couples and we have decided on a date when all are free to be auditioned to be in my trailer. I plan on holding this audition on Wednesday 12th October 2016, where I will use a script from another romantic- drama film and get them to act it out together. Following this audition I will evaluate their performances and come to a decision.
I will also hold a separate audition for some of my prospective extras. This dqate is yet to be confirmed. Extras needed: -Annabelle's Sister -Annabelle's Dad -Classmate to fight with Flynn I have decided that in order to make my actors feel comfortable, I would prefer to cast an actual couple who are dating, to play the couple in the film. I believe that for amateur actors, this would create less tension and would represent a more genuine and real emotion between the characters. I am planning to audition two couples. These are Mimi Draper-Ramm and Will Oliver and then Sarah Groarke (my sister) and John Holme. Whilst a lot of the characteristics of Annabelle are actually based on my sister, I believe that she and John may be too young to portray the character. However, I am not sure that I could trust Will and Mimi to be able to portray my ideas in a mature and serious manner.
